Delhi police recovers 33 stolen motorcycles following arrest of auto lifter from Manipur

With the arrest of interstate auto lifter HM Burhanuddin (29) son of HM Abdul Hakim of Lilong Turelahanbi Salam in Thoubal district, an active member of Shana Gang of North-Eastern region, staff of PS S.J.Enclave, New Delhi South District have recovered 33 stolen motor cycles and worked out 69 cases of Motor-Vehicle (MV) theft of Delhi, UP and Uttrakhand, a release of the Delhi police claimed.
In a release, the Delhi police said that HM Burhanuddin was arrested in a follow up investigation into a complaint lodged on 22/05/11 by Sh Himanshu Sehgal of Mayur Vihar who made a PCR call regarding theft of his Yamaha motor cycle (R-15) bearing Regn.

In order to prevent such incidents, sources were deployed to keep a close watch over the activities of jail/bail released accused persons which finally brought good results.
In the evening of May 22, secret information was received from a reliable source that a person would come in the Green Park area for delivery of stolen motor cycle to his accomplice.
HM Burhanuddin was arrested with a motor cycle, which he had stolen on the same day.
On interrogation, the accused disclosed he is a member of the Shana Gang of North-Eastern region, which is involved in auto lifting on a large scale.
He also disclosed the names of his associates Majid Ali @ Shana, Gaffar and Surender Sharma (Railway Agent at Old Delhi Railway Station) .
At the instance of accused, a luggage ticket (bilty) of motor cycle, booked from Bhiwani (Haryana) Railway Station to Dimapur, was recovered from his house in Uttam Nagar, Delhi.
The stolen vehicles were transported to Lilong through railway bookings.
Other members took delivery of motor cycles from Dimapur Railway Station for further disposal in various parts of Manipur and Nagaland.
The accused also disclosed about the booking of several motor cycles recently from Bhiwani Railway Station for onward transport to Nagaland.
To recover these motor cycles, a team comprising of SI Pawan Tomar, SI Dharamveer Singh, HCs Dinesh Tyagi, Raj Kumar, Ajay Kumar, Dharampal and Cts Saleem, Anuj, Chanderpal, Omhari and Arvind was formed under the supervision of Inspector Avtar Singh Rawat, SHO/SJ Enclave under the overall supervision of Sh Mohinder Singh, ACP/SJ Enclave.
A police team was dispatched to Bhiwani Railway Station to obtain records of motor cycles booked for Dimapur and other railway stations in the NE.
Records of the Parcel Office revealed that a total of 85 bikes had been booked by the accused persons from Bhiwani to Dimapur since the last three months.
On the basis of engine/chassis numbers mentioned in the booking forms, it revealed that registration number plates of all the vehicles were forged and bikes were found to be stolen from different parts of Delhi.
The destination of all the motor cycles was Dimapur in Nagaland.
During the course of investigation, a total of 20 stolen bikes were recovered from Old Delhi Railway Station waiting to be loaded in the Brahamputra Mail.
A team was sent to Dimapur and 11 stolen bikes were recovered from the Parcel Office, Dimapur and Guwahati.
Further scrutiny of records at Dimapur revealed that 63 stolen bikes were delivered from the Dimapur Parcel Office in the last three months.
The modus operandi of the gang is that they stole motor cycles in the early morning hours from different parts of Delhi, preferably red as this colour is in great demand in Manipur.
The stolen motor cycles were sent to other members on the directions of gang leader Shana, who prepared the forged documents of these motor cycles by replacing the number plates with fake numbers of Rajasthan, Uttrakhand, UP and Haryana.After that they would contact one Surender Sharma of Rohini, who assisted them in sending the bikes to Bhiwani Railway Station through railway lease.
After that they would book the stolen bikes from Bhiwani to Dimapur Railway Station and other railway stations in the NE through forged document.
The luggage tickets were sent to their associates in Manipur through courier service.
Booking from Delhi Railway Station requires a confirmed reservation ticket of a passenger whereas from Bhiwani and Alwar, only a general ticket is sufficient for booking.
Efforts are on to locate absconding Majid Ali @ Shana (Gang Leader), Surender Sharma and other members of the gang, the release added.
