Former Minister M Kunjo, ex-MLA testified before the Upendra Commission of Judicial Inquiry at Kuki Inn in Imphal today that many people had lost their lives and the State Assembly with some Government buildings were burnt into ashes due to the failure of the Government's security measures during the June 18 anti-ceasefire uprising.
Kunjo and other members of his family had heard many agitators pelted stones first at the residential quarters of Lok Sabha MP Th Chaoba while they were in their quarters.
He with his family members took refuge at the quarters of former Minister M Okendra, ex-MLA out of fear as the agitators started pelting stones at his quarters after burning the MP's residence, he stated.
While taking shelter at Oken's quarters, Kunjo saw the burning of his quarters.
All his family possessions including a double-barrel gun and a licensed pistol were destroyed by the devastating fire, he said.
Counsels of the Government, CRPF and UCM cross-examined Kunjo before the Commission.
Kh Brojen (16) of Konjeng Leikai, one of the victims of June 18 incidents also testified before the Commission today.
He was hit by a bullet at his left hand during the CRPF firing at the gate of the CM's official bungallow.
Brojen saw some CRPF personnel as he reached the CM's bungalow gate which was already kept opened.
Just as he entered the gate, the CRPF opened fire at the crowd and he with his friend, Open had tried to escape from the area, he said.
He was hit by a bullet at his left hand and fell on the ground at the CM's official bungalow gate.
While he was lying on the ground, one CRPF personnel holding a sten carbine came towards him.
After the CRPF turned away from him, Brojen fled from the place, he said.
Open was already hit by a bullet at his abdomen.
Brojen saw Open carrying away by some security personnel in a police vehicle, he told the Commission.
Some other security personnel later rushed him to the JN hospital, he added.
Brojen was also cross-examined by the counsels of the Government and the CRPF.
Meanwhile, Dr Laishram Ramesh of the RIMS Hospital Casualty Department has submitted a report of the medical-legal cases of nine persons to the Commission.
