Release all arrested folks: Thawai Mirel

Imphal, December 01 2024: The Thawai Mirel has asked the Government to release all arrested agitators without any condition at the earliest.

Aggrieved and anguished by the acts of terror unleashed by Kuki terrorists including the most barbaric murder of women and children in cold blood apart from reducing thousands of houses to ashes and rendering tens of thousands homeless, people spontaneously staged different modes of protest.

They protested in the interest of the people and they have no personal interest but the Government has arrested many of the protesters invoking several Acts.

Such response of the Government is akin to those Manipuri kings who ruled Manipur during the Seven Years Devastation (1819-1826) after swearing loyalty to the Awas (Burmese), the Thawai Mirel said in a press release.

While no action has been initiated against the 10 Kuki-Zo MLAs who have been conspiring to break Manipur and openly supporting the Kuki-Zo terrorists, the Government has been victimising the protesters, it decried.

It is the Indian armed forces who are most trusted by the State's political leaders but even military camps are no longer secure as testified by the disappearance/abduction of Laishram Kamalbabu from the 57th Mountain Division headquarters, Leimakhong.

Arresting people who protested in the interest of the people is nothing but inviting a much bigger public uproar, it warned.
