Sharda's response displeases YOM
Source: The Sangai Express

Imphal, November 01 2023: Listing a series of demands and taking strong exception to the killing of Moreh SDPO Chingtham Anand Kumar at Moreh yesterday, hundreds of volunteers of Youth of Manipur (YOM) stormed the residence of BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sharda Devi at Brahmapur Aribam Leikai late last night and spent the whole night at the locality seeking audience with the leader of the saffron party.

Reportedly, the YOM volunteers met Sharda Devi this morning and urged the latter to take action against the seven Kuki BJP MLAs for demanding disintegration of Manipur and to bring a solution to the ongoing crisis.

As per the YOM volunteers, the BJP State unit president didn't give any positive response as she insisted that they have already apprised the Central leadership to take action against the seven Kuki BJP MLAs on May 14 .

She also said that it is only the Central leadership who can take action against the party members as BJP is a National party, added the YOM volunteers.

Claiming that Sharda Devi even accused YOM of politicising the issue and questioning the stand of BJP, the YOM volunteers maintained that the remark of the BJP leader was unfortunate.

It is unfortunate that the BJP doesn't have any concrete plan to bring a solution to the crisis, they charged and added that they didn't get any positive response from Sharda Devi.

Sharda Devi is completely powerless and she seemingly was chosen as BJP Manipur Pradesh president only to fill the post they added.

Meanwhile last night, the police tried to disperse the YOM volunteers by firing tear gas shells, mock bombs but the latter assembled again at the locality after a while stating that they wouldn't return until they meet Sharda Devi.

It is said that five volunteers of YOM sustained injuries in the police action and they are undergoing treatment at Raj Medicity.

The police then used water cannons to disperse the youth volunteers but the gathering didn't succumb to the pressure but instead raised slogans "Manipur Ima na Yaifare", "Long Live Manipur," "What we are doing is for you in the police force too" .

Among the youth volunteers, some shouted that the house of Sharda Devi should be burnt.

Police failed to disperse the youth volunteers from the area and the latter spent the night at the premises of Youths Club Brahmapur seeking audience with Sharda Devi.

Speaking to the media last night, one of the YOM volunteers said that the BJP Government shouldn't allow Kuki militants to kill even one more Meetei and take action against the seven MLAs of the party who endorse the demand of the Kukis to break the State apart.

He also demanded that the people involved in the killing of SDPO Anand must be brought to book and justice delivered.
