Imphal, October 31 2012:
The Joint Committee on Inner line Permit System is all set to highlight demand for implementation of ILP in Manipur at the national capital on November 25 .
Committee co-convenor Mutum Churamani announced decision of the ILP campaigner to highlight the issue in Delhi in the form of a sit-in-protest at Jantar Mantar while addressing participants of a protest session organised today by the Committee at Keishampat Lairembi community hall.
While informing that Lok Sabha MP Dr Th Meinya and representatives of political parties and Manipuri Students' Association will also take part at the Jantar Mantar sit-in-protest, the co-convenor maintained that today's protest demonstration is to remind the Government of Manipur on the approaching deadline served by the Committee for a positive and effective action to implement ILP in Manipur.
Suggesting that the Government take a definite stand on the issue ahead of the deadline, Churamani also opined that failure to check influx of migrant workers or illegal immigrants might lead to a serious situation similar to that witnessed recently in Assam.
Expressing that enforcing ILP will be beneficial for the people of Manipur in the long term, he also cautioned that unrestrained flow of migrant workers and illegal immigrants will lead to gradual dilution of the indigenous peoples' identity and culture.
He also pointed that at a recent convention organised by the Committee, representatives of political parties and intellectuals had endorsed the Committee's campaign for implementing ILP in Manipur.
Moreover, as the State Cabinet had already voiced in favour of enforcing ILP the delay in its implementation is unjustifiable, he added.
