Official notification for ADC polls issued

The State Election Commission (SEC) has today issued an official notification for a single-phase ADC poll for election of 144 members of six Autonomous District Councils slated to be held on June 1 .
The last date of filing nomination is May 5 and scrutiny of nominations will be held on May 7.The last date of withdrawal of candidature is May 11 .
With the issuance of the poll notification, model code of conduct for the ADC election has been enforced with immediate effect in all the ADCs �Chandel, Churachandpur, Sadar Hills, Senapati, Tamenglong and Ukhrul, Secretary of State Election Commission, Manipur, Th Chitra Devi said in a press conference today at the SEC office.
Along with the enforcement of the poll conduct, grants and schemes including financial transactions covering the six autonomous district council areas have been stalled, she said.
The general model code of conduct enforced by the Election Commission of India would be in effect, Chitra added.
Any DPC for any project or department which might affect the poll results is banned, she said.
Unlike the previous ADC election which was conducted in two different phases, the election this year will be conducted in a single phase.
The poll is scheduled to be held on June 1 from 7 am to 4.30 pm and all poll processes are to be completed by June 17.In any case of untoward incidents on the date of election, the tentative date for re-poll set by the Commission is June 6.Counting of votes will be held on June 10, she said.
Votes will be cast at 1163 polling stations in the six autonomous district councils where 5815 polling personnel will be utilised to conduct the poll.
Till date selection of micro observers is not confirmed yet, said Chitra.
Meanwhile, all Superintendents of Police concerned of the six autonomous districts are instructed to consult their respective DCs to supervise security measures at all polling stations.
Approximately, 6,88,410 voters will exercise their franchise to select 144 members of the six Autonomous District Councils.
Chitra added that a common alternative venue will be arranged to file nominations in case intending candidates find any disadvantages in filing nominations at the given venues.
She further appealed to all people concerned to exercise their franchise and extend cooperation so that the poll is conducted in a free and fair manner.
She added that the State Election Commission would take up necessary measures to make the ADC election a peaceful and successful one.
