Imphal, January 31 2017:
Alleging that Chief Minister O Ibobi violated the model code of conduct by outlining what his Government has done in the last 15 years and what it intends to do if the Congress comes back to power during the Statehood day function as well as the Speaker for using the Assembly hall to address the media and refute a report which said that some Congress MLAs have sought the BJP's ticket, BJP MLA Th Biswajit said that the matter has now been referred to the Election Commission of India.
Addressing the media at the State BJP office today, Biswajit said that the Chief Minister outlined what his Government had done in the past and what it intends to do during the Statehood Day function held on January 21 at the Old Secretariat and alleged that this was in violation of the model code of conduct.
The model of conduct came into force on January 4, when the ECI announced the poll schedule for Manipur.
Being the Chief Minister for 15 years has gone to his head, alleged Biswajit and added that his conduct testifies that he does not regard the Constitution of India and a Constitutionally mandated body like the ECI.
As such to take up fitting action against the Chief Minister, the BJP has highlighted the matter to the ECI, said the MLA.
Pointing his fingers at Th Lokeshwor, the BJP MLA further said that he defiled the sanctity of the Assembly complex by using it as a Congress office in inviting Congress Ministers and MLAs to the Committee room of the Assembly and addressing the media to refute a report that some Congress MLAs are set to join the BJP.
This was in total violation of the model code of conduct, said the MLA and added that this too has been highlighted to the ECI.
Strongly coming out against the conduct of the Speaker, Biswajit said that with the model code of conduct now in force, the Speaker should be the custodian of the Assembly and safeguard its sanctity.
However he turned it into a sort of a Congress office by inviting the media and addressing them to refute a report, alleged the MLA.
For defiling the sanctity of the Assembly Lokeshwor should resign from the post of the Speaker on moral ground, demanded Biswajit.
Apart from the ECI, the matter has also been highlighted to the Lok Sabha Speaker, added Biswajit.
