Imphal, October 29 2024:
Mother of Laishram ningol Naorem ongbi Sangita of Kakwa, who died after a tear gas shell exploded close to her bedroom last month, has raised suspicions over circumstances leading to her health condition and cause of death.
She cited post mortem report released recently by the authority as the reason for her suspicion.
Sangita's mother Laishram Bimoti of Uripok Huidrom Leikai, told media persons at Manipur Press Club on Tuesday, that she always had doubts over the circumstances of daughter slipping into a coma and subsequently leading to her death on September 18.As such, she requested for post mortem examination.
She informed that the post mortem report, released recently by the authority, mentions subdural hematoma on her daughter resulting in brain haemorrhage, which corroborates her suspicion.
She recalled how her daughter called her over the phone on September 12 around 3.50 am and told her that she was experiencing severe headache and vomiting.
She also recalled how a JAC was formed after her daughter's husband, Naorem Deepak informed that a tear gas shell exploded just outside their bedroom hours before her condition deteriorated.
The house is located about 280 metres from the national highway and she finds it hard to believe that tear gas shell could land there.
Even if it landed and exploded there, the smoke and fumes should disperse within 30 minutes at most.
Besides, it is hard to believe that tear gas explosion could cause hypertension, she contended.
The mother further said that there was an injury mark on the right side of her daughter's head while in hospital.
It may be caused by assault, or by a blunt object or by accident.
Since the post mortem report specifically mentions subdural hematoma, she is suspicious of her daughter being subjected to physical or sexual assault that night, she added.
She then appealed to the people of the state, CSOs, the JAC of Kakwa and authority concerned to help in finding out the truth behind the fateful incident that led to her daughter and unborn child's death and clear her suspicion.
Mention may be made that JAC formed against the incident launched agitations including bandh and placing the stillborn baby at the gate of Singjamei police station.
Later, the JAC claimed the body of Sangita following an agreement with the government and her last rites were held at her in-law's home.
As there was allegation of the situation caused by tear gas shell explosion outside her bedroom, the state government bore all the treatment cost while the victim was undergoing treatment at RIMS ICU.
Consequently, the government had also transferred Singjamei SDPO K Sunderbala.
