PAWF hands over statues of Lamyanba Irabot, Nupi Lan

Patriotic Writers Forum (PAWF), Manipur president Naoroibam Khamba Luwang and secretary Rakesh Naorem on Thursday handed over two statues of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot and Nupi Lan to the representatives ofManipuri Women Literary & Cultural Organisation, Hojai, Assam.
The statues of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot and Nupi Lan arrived in Hojai yesterday via an Indigo flight.
Upon arrival, locals of Hojai paid tributes by lighting lamps.
Speaking to media persons today, Rakesh Naorem said that the PAWF Manipur in collaboration with Manipuri Women Literary & Cultural Organisation will be hosting a special event on December 10 & 12, 2024 to honour the legacies of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot and Nupi Lal.
He shared that a half-sized statue of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot will be unveiled at Nandapur, Hojai on December 10 .
"It will be followed by the unveiling of a life-sized statue of Nupi Lan on December 12 at Gobindapur, Hojai", he added.
He asserted that the two statues will be installed in different locations at Hojai to foster a sense of patriotism and nationalism among the Meeteis living in various places.
Highlighting the importance of the two historic movements waged by women of Manipur against mass exploitation and artificial famine triggered by the British, Rakesh said that the statues will be installed to honour the bravery and sacrifice made by the brave women for the cause of the motherland.
The statues were handed over in the presence of Manipuri Women Literature & Cultural Organisation president Huirongbam Kunjabati, secretary Ashem Subhashini, Thangjam Irabot, social activist Huirongbam Binodbijari and other members of the organisation.
Notably, the half-sized statue of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot was sculpted by Naorem Labango of Kakwa Naorem Leikai, Imoinu Leirak and the space(land) for installing the statue in Hojai is donated by social activist Thangjam Irabot.
The land for installing the life-sized statue of Nupi Lan was donated by Late Seram Kamini Singha.
The special event is being organised with the support of Nandapur Popular Club & Library and Thambal Rising Club & Library, Gobindapur.
