Imphal, August 28 2022:
Environmentalist RK Meghen (Sanayaima) has urged for institutionalising the narrative art form of 'Waree Leeba' to ensure its long term prospects.
He made the proposal during the inaugural function of 'Festival of Narrative Art Form' organised by Amai-piba Apul-lup (APAL) Kangleipak as part of its two-month 3rd Foundation Day celebration at Chanam Sandrok on Sunday.
Meghen said that the indigenous communities of the state are still facing threat to their existence.
Concerted efforts are needed to fend off these threats, he asserted, while remarking that Sanamahi religion must not be taken lightly at any given time.
He then urged tor preservation and promotion of the state's culture and traditions left behind by the forefathers, while lamenting over the youth's unawareness of Manipur's history after it was excluded from the school and college syllabi for over 3 decades.
Waree Leeba is one such cultural legacy left behind by the ancestors, he said, and emphasised the need for institutionalising the narrative art form including teaching it as part of syllabus in schools and colleges.
Presided over by APAL leader Moirangthem Bheigya Meetei, the inaugural function was also attended by MALEM Lup president Waikhom Amuchou, Chanam Sandrok GP Kangbam Sundar, MIS Lup president Hijam Babumacha and National Board MSMI member Robin Blackie, among others.
