Imphal, July 25 2014 :
Irked with continued apathy of the state government towards the problem of lack of doctors, deplorable roads, absenteeism of the sub divisional officer (SDO) and poor education facilities, various frontal organisations of Tamei sub division in Tamenglong district have geared up to resort to drastic form of agitation.
In a meeting, the Zeliangrong Students Union-Tamei Area (ZSU-TA), Tamei Headquarters Youth Club, Liangmai Pui Baudi, Tamei Women Front, Tamei Students' Union and Liangmai Katimai Ruangdi (LNKR) have resolved to carry out series of agitations if the state government step-motherly treatment continues, according to Pougaibou, leader of ZSU-TA.
He said that the Tamei sub division frontal organisations have pulled up their loins to agitate against the poor living basic facilities in the area.
The people of the sub division heavily depend on the Primary Health Centre (PHC), Tamei as the sub-health centres have totally non-functional in the large sub division.
Patients rushing to the PHC often go back home as doctors are not in the station, alleged Pougaibou.
According to him, the frontal organisations of the sub division demanded that doctors and staff are posted at the only PHC immediately by the state government.
They also demanded that the PHC should be made round the clock functioning.
Villagers have no means to rush to Imphal or the district headquarters for medical attention, the organisations said, adding, "The proper functioning of the PHC will help ease the peoples' hardship" .
Regarding the I.T Road, considered one of the oldest roads in Manipur, the only life line directly connecting the state capital Imphal with Tamei sub division, the frontal organisations said landslides during rainy season are synonymous with the road.
Accidents kill scores of people every year along the I.T Road but the state government refuses to notice them, rued the Tamei frontal organisations.
The Tamei bodies then urged the contractors concerned to maintain quality in their respective portion while carrying out the work along the road.
The Tamei frontal organisations then demanded that the Langmei High School at Tamei should be upgraded to the higher secondary level saying since the sub division is backward the students are finding it hard to go out elsewhere to atleast complete their Class-XII standard.
The organisations claimed that Langmei High School is one of the oldest government schools in Manipur.
The Tamei frontal organisations then demanded that the incumbent SDO should immediately be in station.
They alleged that the officer has not attended the office after he had given the joining report.
"Earlier SDOs including Kiran Kumar, Bhogen, Hannah and others have well-earned good reputations from the denizens of Tamei sub division but the present SDO is distancing from the people," stated the Tamei organisations.
