Shrubs along NH-2 road cleared for public safety

Volunteers of Senapati District Drivers' Welfare Union, Surface Transport Hills Area Drivers' Welfare Union, Manipur and the Senapati District Tata Owners' Association conducted social service along the NH-2 road on Saturday and cut down tall grasses for public safety.
Two groups conducted the social service, one group starting from Mao side and the other from Karong village in Senapati district.
Briefing media persons, Surface Transport Hills Area Drivers' Welfare Union, Manipur executive member Athikho Ranbir said that the social work was carried out in view of the sharp curves along the highway in between Karong and Khongnem.
Due to growth of tall grasses and shrubs drivers' view get blocked often leading to accidents along the highway.
For public safety and for safety of the drivers, the union members cleared-the tall grasses, he said.
Surface Transport Hills Area Drivers' Welfare Union, Manipur president A Kapani also sought cooperation of all drivers and advised them not to drive vehicles under influence of alcohol.
He also said that the union is planning to search drunk drivers or ferrying illicit liquor that had caused different accidents in the past.
