Sit-in staged against proposed ring road

Imphal, May 24 2022: Objecting construction of the proposed Imphal ring road passing through Tharon village, denizens of Thangmeiband Tharon village staged a sit-in protest at the local community hall here on Tuesday.

The protestors held placards inscribed with slogans like "No to Imphal Ring road in Tharon Village", "No to eviction of Tharon Village", "Build ADB Imphal Ring road outside Imphal Town", "NoRing road without people's consent", etc.

Speaking on the sideline of the protest, former village chairman Athuah Gangmei noted that the ring road will immensely affect the village.

It might even uproot the village, he contended, while demanding to realign the ring road to another location.

Pointing out that the village is a symbol of love between the hills and the valley, Athuari further urged not t0 break such fraternal bonds.
