Imphal, December 23 2024:
Delhi police prohibited Imagi Meira convenor Thokchom Sujata from participating in the protest organised by civil society organisations at Jantar Mantar, Delhi on Monday.
Sujata had gone to Delhi to attend the Nupi Lal observance organised by Delhi Meetei Co-Ordinating Committee (DMCC) on December 12 but was barred from leaving her accommodation at Mansaram Park, Uttam Nagar in Delhi.
In this regard, Sujata released a video on social media stating that after putting her in house arrest to prevent her from attending the Nupi Lal observance on December 12, Delhi police again stopped her on Monday from attending the protest at Jantar Mantar, stating that it was an order from the higher authorities.
She questioned whether one has no right to speak the truth about the conflict, including the suspicious disappearance of Laishram Kamalbabu from the Leimakhong army camp.
She further questioned the rationale for preventing her from attending the protest and putting her under house arrest, while asking why her right to air her grievances in a democracy is being denied.
Further asking what wrong Imagi Meira has committed, Sujata demanded an explanation from both the central and state governments on why she is being kept under house arrest.
