VDF Assn deplores excess duty, minuscule salary

Imphal, December 22 2021: It is regrettable of the state police department to admit publicly that it is using VDF personnel as police constables for 24 hours, All Manipur VDF Welfare Association president O Bijoy has remarked.

Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club here on Wednesday, Bijoy stated that there are documented order copies to prove that SPs assign VDF personnel for duty meant for police and urged the top officials to look into the matter.

He then remarked that if all VDF personnel were given holiday for 1-2 days, it will prove who have been doing the duty in every station, unit and road.

Recalling the Association's demands for preparing the seniority list of VDF personnel under Section 18 of Police Act, 1961 for service protection along with RR for uniform service on outstanding performance; the president contended that if VDF personnel were made to perform the duty of a police constable, they must be provided with the same salary and benefits of a police constable.

However, if the VDF personnel were to take a unanimous decision on the matter, they are often portrayed as "unfilial".

Urging the state cabinet to take a decision for establishment of a uniform service before the Election Code of Conduct takes effect; Bijoy reminded that CM had previously announced to fulfil the demands of the Association.
