Imphal, May 21 2024:
RPI Athawale national secretary Maheshwar Thounaojam has said that he will sustain efforts to delete Chin-Kuki from the ST list and for inclusion of Meetei in the same.
Informing this during a press conference held in Mumbai on Monday, Maheshwar said that the matter was discussed in the party's Central Committee meeting chaired by national president and union minister Ramdas Athawale.
RPI NE in-charge Vinod Nikalje and other party leaders were also present at the press conference.
Maheshwar said that it would not be wrong to say that Chin-Kuki people, who recently entered India, have caused problems to the indigenous people.
Under the present policy, any person belonging to Chin-Kuki from Myanmar, can easily get citizenship and ST status through corrupt practices.
Removing Chin-Kuki from the ST list would be a deterrent factor for their influx into the country.
On the other hand, the Meetei community has every right and conditions to be included in the ST list.
RPI-A is all set to endorse the ST status for Meetei once the state government sends its recommendation, he said while urging political parties with units in the state to support the issue as well.
RPI Central Committee member Vinod Nikalje said that the party's Central Committee meeting unanimously resolved to stand for the people of Manipur.
The meeting also endorsed the ST demand by Meetei/Meitei, he added.
