Plight of workers in unorganised sector highlighted

The state-level convention of All Manipur Minority Unorganised Workers' Union (AMMUWU), which is affiliated to All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), Manipur, was held at Sangaiyumpham Part-II Cherapur Mayai Leikai on Wednesday with AITUC, Manipur general secretary L Sotinkumar as chief guest, AMMUWU president H Subhash as president, and AMMUWU general secretary Raheena Begum Raj, AITUC, Manipur secretary Kh Samungou, Meitei Council Moreh leaders N Pulindro and Thoiba Singh, social worker Haji Abul Kalam Azad, Meitei Pangal Council, Manipur president Haji Arafat and AMMUWU joint secretary Ph Firoj Khan as guests of honour.
In his address, L Sotinkumar stated that AITUC has been working for the welfare of workers in the unorganised sector, who often endure a low standard of living due to their meagre wages.
Alleging that the government has failed to look into the welfare of unorganised sector workers, he also lamented that labourers and workers have been hit hard by the ongoing conflict in the state.
Sotinkumar further decried the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the Manipur crisis, and urged the government to promptly resolve the crisis through political dialogue.
