A consultation workshop on State Action Plan for Climate Change (SAPCC)-Version 2 was organised by Directorate of Environment and Climate Change at Classic Grande, Chingmeirong on Saturday.
The workshop was organised to discuss the final inputs regarding strategies and action plan for Manipur State Action Plan on Climate Change (SAPCC) version 2 (2021-2030) of four sectors, namely Forest and Biodiversity, Water Resources, Health and Agriculture and allied activities.
Delivering the keynote speech, Directorate of Environment and Climate Change joint director Dr T Brajakumar said that the workshop was organised with the objective of finalising the revised version of SAPCC, along with the line departments of the state government regarding climate change.
The action plan will focus on Forest and Biodiversity, Water Resources, Health and Agriculture and allied activities.
Thematic ideas for sensitive areas of each sector will be produced to ascertain what action plan would be best effective for the survival and adaptation ability of living organisms, including preservation.
Dr Brajakumar then informed that efforts are being made to prepare a separate and detailed project for each sector.
The action plan will be finalised within the current month and after receiving approval from the state government, would be forwarded to the central government.
Previously, several district-level workshops and sector specific meetings were conducted for the action plan, leading up to the final consultation workshop on the four sectors on Saturday, he added.
During the workshop, IISc Bangalore Prof N H Rabindranath spoke on 'Global climate change policy - downscale at sub national level'; while Centre for Study of Science, Technology and Policy (CSTEP), Bangalore principal research scientist Dr Indu K Murthy gave a presentation on Climate change vulnerability assessment on human health in Manipur'.
The heads and nodal offices of different department/agencies; subject experts/ scholars from Manipur University, Central Agricultural University, NIT-Manipur and ICAR-Manipur; individual subject experts; senior journalists and Media Fellow Recipients on Climate Change Reporting in Manipur, 2020-21 attended the workshop.
The workshop was also attended by eminent economist Prof N Mohendro, State Level Expert Appraisal Committee chairman Prof E Bijoy and State Level Environment Impact Assessment authority chairman E Jadu as presidium members.
