SSS celebrates anniversary; awards distributed

Kakching, January 16 2025:
The 58th foundation day of Sahitya Seva Samiti (SSS), Kakching was celebrated at the Library and Information Centre auditorium, Kakching Phoushupat Leikai on Wednesday along with distribution of its annual literary awards.
The programme was attended by Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy, Imphal vice chairman Longjam Joychandra, SSS, Kakching president & Sahitya Akademi awardee Kshetri Bira and Sahitya Akademi, awardee Yumlembam Ibomcha as chief guest, president and guest of honour, respectively.
As apart of the celebration, the 67th edition of Samiti's journal 'Chumthang' was also released and awards sponsored by various donors were handed over to Dr Kshetrimayum Shanta Singh for his book 'Anganba Khunnaida Nupigi Shaktam' (critical writing); ES Sundar (Elangbam Shyamsundar) for '71 gi Nganu Thanggong' (novel/short story); Tongbram Amarjit for 'Imagi Keithel' (poetry); Nongmaithem Kirankumar for his translation work 'Leishabi Macha Amagi Diary/Anne Frank's Diary of a Young Girl' (translation); Thokchom Anjana of Lakshipur Labok Part II, Assam for her poetry anthology 'Hinglamge Nashunglanggi' (diaspora); and Saratchand Thiyam for 'Nungshibee Japan' (travelogue/drama/biography/autobiography).
The awards consist of citation, shawl and cash prize of Rs 10,000 each.
In honour of their benevolence, SSS also presented gifts to the donors.
The programme also included offering of floral tributes at the photos of departed elders and donors along with observing two-minute silence in respect of those who lost their lives in the ongoing conflict.
Tributes were also paid to writers Maibam Nabakishwar and Pukhrambam Kunjo, who recently passed away as Manipur University associate professor Dr Chirom Rajketan recounting the work and life of M Nabakishwar and Naorem Samarjit deliberating on P Kunjo's contribution.
