Manipuris in S Korea celebrate Cheiraoba

Imphal, April 15 2025: In a wistful longing for a time when Manipur was a powerful and peaceful kingdom in Southeast Asia - proudly known as a land of culture and sporting excellence - Manipuris living in South Korea came together and celebrated Cheiraoba, the lunar New Year as per the traditional calendar.

In a release, Korea Manipuri Association president Dr Soram Bobby informed that this year's Cheiraoba celebration took place on April 5 at a large pension house in the suburbs of Anseong City - popularly called the City of Masters - located about 80 km south of Seoul.

As a cherished tradition, gifts were presented and blessings exchanged among all attending Pebas (male) apd beloved Ningols (female) .

The spirit of brotherhood and sisterhood was further high-lighted by inviting guests from other Indian states who share a warm rapport with the Manipuri community.

"The spirit of togetherness and the commitment to preserving our rich culture is deeply rooted in every Manipuri's heart - just as strong as the love for the geographical integrity of our homeland - no matter how many years or decades one has been away," conveyed the president.
