AR foils timber smuggling, security threat

Imphal, March 15 2024:
Assam Rifles of Inspector General Assam Rifles (South), foiled illegal timber smuggling on Friday after the troops manning mobile vehicle check posts in general area of Wamku Junction and Mongsang Pantha of Chandel district intercepted six vehicles carrying timber logs, as well as 10 individuals.
The captured vehicles, together with the timber and individuals, were turned over to the District Forest Officer, Chandel for further investigation, informed PRO IGAR (S) in a release.
Meanwhile, Assam Rifles troops reportedly detected 3-4 armed miscreants in the hills of T Chiru and Khoken moving towards Sangaithel in Imphal West district in the early hours on Friday.
According to the PRO, the troops engaged the miscreants and, when fired upon, responded in a calibrated manner, causing the miscreants to halt firing.
Subsequently, search operation and area domination was carried out consequently foiling nefarious plans of the miscreants and effectively averting escalation of the security situation in the area.
