Voters avoid candidates not serving liquor: CADA

While observing that liquor and other addictive substances have now become part and parcel in any events and functions, Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) secretary general Geetchandra Mangang has said that even voters stay away house of candidate who does not serve liquor and tobacco products.
Speaking during a discussion programme held as a part of its campaign to prevent use of addictive substances in elections at Keirao Tarungmakhong on Saturday, the secretary general lamented that the number people addicted to drugs and alcohol is increasing in the state.
One of the reasons for such addiction among the youth is that parents also use such additive substances, he explained, while observing that the society seems, to approve indulgence in drugs, alcohol and other addictive substances.
Electoral candidates also try to lure male voters by providing alcohol and female voters by serving tobacco products, he contended.
The discussion programme was attended by senior Meira Paibi Muturn Sakhi, CADA Imphal East district committee president Ningthou jam Memchoubi and CADA president Hijam Priyokumar as presidium members.
