Modi village organises 2nd organic mela

The 2nd Organic Mela 2021 organised by organic farmers of Modi village in Chandel district was held at Modi Rasubal in the village on Tuesday with farmers opening stalls of organic vegetables.
Modi Baptist Church pastor KL Lumhring opened the Mela along with a prayer.
According to village chief KL John, the villagers agreed to grow only organic foods in the village and Centre for Social Development (CSD) Imphal helped them in the process.
Officials of agriculture & horticulture department as well as KVK Chandel often asked the villagers to make Modi ah organic village.
The Organic Mela was organised with the objective to promote organic farming in the village and their organic products, he said.
Located at a distance of around 5/6 km from Chandel district headquarters, Modi village is surrounded by 12 different villages.
An AR camp has also stationed in the village area from Chandel DHQs.
However, there is no marketplace in the area.
Airing the concerns of the farmers, the village chief appealed to the government to construct a market place in the village so that they as well as farmers from the nearby villages could sell their products there.
He also said that they are willing to donate the land required for the market.
KVK Chandel head Dr Ashem Ameeta, Home Science SMS Yumnam Prabhabati, other staff, and district agriculture officer Chandel Ts Gladney Monsang also visited the mela and interacted with the farmers.
The district agriculture officer also distributed corn and pea seeds to the farmers on the occasion.
