Doctors' healing touch vital for recovery of patients: Ganesan

It is a belief among people across the globe that doctors are next to God and their healing touch is vital for recovering patients admitted to "hospitals and accordingly doctors must work to uphold this belief, stated Governor La Ganesan.
As chief guest of the 6th Foundation Day of JNIMS Dental College cum recognition of BDS course at the auditorium of the government owned medical institute, La Ganesan said that the mission of JNIMS is to educate and impart knowledge to the students and train them to render good service to the patients.
He said that there are many specialised branches in the institute having highly skilled professionals and they are working hard to make the institute the best of its kind in the North East.
He said that doctors should not only be able perform well but also devoted to their profession, apart from having healing touch, which is important for recovering patients admitted to the hospital.
According to La Ganesan, JNIMS has accelerated its speed of development within a short period and it is marching towards enhancement of academic and research activities apart from rendering humanitarian service to the people of the state.
He said that the basic aim of dental college is to provide health-oriented courses that emphasize on prevention of oral diseases.
With the increasing awareness in oral health and surge in demand for cosmetic dental care, the need for trained professional in this field is increasing, he said, adding that there is increasing curiosity among youth particularly girls to take up dentistry as a chosen area of profession.
The Governor then appealed to doctors, nurses and paramedics to establish good relation with their patients, particularly poor and needy.
Health minister Dr Sapam Ranjan, who also attended the event, said that the governments both at the Centre and in the state are committed to providing quality healthcare service to the people and accordingly launched health schemes like PMJAY and CMHT which have benefited many people.
He also said that Jan Andolan and Jan Bhagidari campaigns have been launched to make people aware about benefits given through different schemes in health sector.
He continued that efforts will be made to cover all the needy people under the scheme and accordingly government facilities have been opened in different parts of the state.
While reiterating that there is need for a holistic approach in developing healthcare system in the state, Dr Ranjan appealed to all the stakeholders to support the government in this regard.
Later, the Governor distributed certificates to meritorious students of the institute who bagged positions in university examinations.
The event was also attended by additional chief secretary (health) Vumlunmang Vualnam, JNIMS director professor L Deben, JNIMS dean of academics professor T Rajen Singh, principal Dental college Nidarsh D.Hegde and JNIMS medical superintendent professor Kh Lokeshwar Singh.
