Imphal, July 14 2024:
Federation of Civil Society Organisation (FOCS) has contended that the repeated acts of arson on Meetei houses by armed Kuki militants is primarily due to security forces not discharging their duty sincerely.
In a statement, FOCS information and public relation secretary Nerish Mangang denounced the burning of house of Jiri Development Organisation advisor N Sadanand Meitei at Leingangpokpi, Jiribam on July 13 and attack on Meetei houses by Kuki militants using sophisticated guns and bombs.
Likening search of every household at Lairembi Leikai (Kalinagar) under the supervision of Jiribam SP to a wild goose chase, the Federation questioned how Kuki militants burnt down Meetei house located 100 metres from an Assam Rifles post had the security forces acted on time and sincerely.
Such incidents deepen the people's suspicion about a hidden agenda and nexus between security forces and Kuki militants to drive out the Meeteis from Jiribam, the secretary maintained.
Stating that attacks on Mongbung village by Kuki militants is still continuing, he cautioned that people will launch intense protest and even demand withdrawal of CRPF deployed in the area if the attacks are not stopped.
Nerish further urged state forces deployed in the area to act valiantly in protecting the lives and properties of the people.
