Ukhrul, June 13 2022:
Putting to rest the decades-old customary battle over the Pipa-ship (the eldest) of Konghar clan, the Hundung Godah Village Court has finally declared Ameikharar Malungring Konghar as the Pipa of Konghar clan in the village.
For decades, the matter of Pipaship/Khararpam had been a bone of contention among three elders of Konghar clan of the village namely, Malungring Konghar, Ngamreishang Konghar and Wungreichan Konghar.
The village court made the declaration in line with a judgment to the effect that Malungring Konghar is the Pipa of Konghar shang (clan) through an order.
This came following a customary water immersion judgment administered by the village court recently wherein Malungring won the case over the two other contenders.
"The customary water judgment was initiated by the village court and the same was carried out at Maklang Kong (river) on May 27 to settle the matter once and for all", said Malungring Konghar while briefing media persons during a press conference in Ukhrul town on Monday.
Following the judgment, Godah village headman R Vareishang Shimray formally declared him (Malungring) as the Pipa of Konghar clan, said Malungring.
The headman and the village court subsequently issued an order stating that as per TNL Yanza-yanret Section 6 Provision i(11), the civil case No 01, the customary dispute over the Pipaship of Konghar has been settled on May 27 with the declaration of Malungring as the Pipa of Konghar clan.
The order further ruled that no further appeal could be made in the matter that is already settled through the water judgment as per TNL Section 6 Provision III.
Subsequently, on June 4, Konghar clan hosted a customary Vaokhamalan (declaration) ceremony at Malungring's residence in the village.
During the ceremony, headman R Vareishang Shimray reaffirmed the declaration of Malungring as Pipa of Konghar clan in the presence of Tangkhul Naga Zingsho Longphang (TNZL) chairman Joshua Konghar and Phungvas and headmen from neighbouring villages of the region.
