Imphal, February 12 2022:
Accusing the BJP government of intimidating their rival candidates in the valley with bomb threats and in the hills by using NSCN-IM cadres, Wangkhei MLA Y Erabot has called the BJP government a dictatorial government.
Addressing a press meet at NPP office, Naoremthong here on Saturday, Erabot strongly condemned planting of a bomb at the residence of NPP candidate for Khurai AC L Jayananda's worker Md Abdul Kalam on Friday, and said that the ruling party is carrying out illegal activities.
There have been three bomb threat incidents in Khurai AC alone.
In the hill areas, NSCN-IM cadres are intimidating voters not to support non-BJP candidates, he said while demanding an explanation from the government why it is remaining silent on this matter.
Considering these factors, it would not be wrong to call the BJP government a dictatorial one as those intimidating BJP rivals would be either directly or indirectly involved with BJP.
Deputy chief minister Y Joykumar said that the state home department has done nothing to prevent further bomb threats to the workers of NPP candidate Jayananda despite complaints raised by the party.
As a result, another bomb exploded at the gate of another worker on Friday.
Unless the home department takes up stringent measures at the earliest, similar incidents may occur in the future too.
He also expressed suspicion of political motive behind these attacks.
Such attacks have made the improved law and order situation claim of the government meaningless.
The law-and-order situation has worsened from the time he was the DGP, Joykumar said and urged the home department to do their duty as per the guidelines issued by the Election Commission and help in ensuring a free and fair election.
