Imphal, December 11 2024:
Joint Coordination Committee against the Forest Reservation of Langthabal Chingthak, Chingkha and Khoupum Ching (Hills) Rongmei/Kabui Village (JCCFRLCCK) under Heibok Ching, Imphal has urged the government to revoke the cabinet decision of October 23, declaring Heibok Ching as reserved forest, claiming that the cabinet stand disregards decision of Maharaj Pamheiba (Garibniwaj) allowing the Rongmei/Kabui to settle in the hills of Langthabal, which is presently renamed as Heibok Ching.
In a release, JCCFRLC-CK secretary Gondaimei Chaningai opposed the proposed demarcation/survey of the boundary of Heibok Ching by the state authority.
If the cabinet decision to reserve Langthabal Chingthak, Chingkha and Khoupum Ching (Hills)/ Heibok Ching as reserved forest or taking up the process for reservation of forest by ways of demarcation/survey without the approval or consent of the stake holders is implemented then the Committee will be compelled to launch intense agitation in collaboration with civil organisations, it cautioned.
