Imphal, October 11 2024:
The armed Socialist Revolutionary Party (SOREPA), Kangleipak declared general strike on October 15 from 5 am to 5 pm against the forcible merger of Kangleipak (Manipur) to India on this day in 1949 .
The general strike, however, will not cover movement relating to fire, electricity, medical, religious ceremonies and media, according to SOREPA statement issued by publicity secretary MC Yaiphabi.
The secretary also stated that SOREPA will extend support to general strike, total shutdown or boycott call of other revolutionary groups of WESEA on the said day.
According to MC Yaiphabi, India snatched sovereignty of Kangleipak (Manipur) after the then king Bodhchandra was forced to sign on merger agreement at gun-point on October 15, 1949 at Shillong.
This unfortunate historical event of Kangleipak (Manipur) is well known among the people of the land as well as among the global people and nations.
While recalling how India annexed Kangleipak (Manipur), the SOREPA statement said king Bodhchandra was surrounded by Indian armed forces for several days and confined in his residence at Shillong until signing of the merger agreement.
Since the past many years, the issue of India's annexation of Kangleipak (Manipur) continued to be raised at several global platforms regardless of such campaigns upsetting India.
To claim that the forcible merger of Kangleipak (Manipur) on October 15,1949 was with the approval of the people, India is creating false narrative which must be fought collectively, the SOREPA said.
The outfit also reminded the people that existing problems including the attack on civilians by foreign mercenaries sponsored by India and their collective efforts to distort Kangleipak (Manipur) would only be solved when the lost sovereignty of the land is restored.
