Imphal, August 11 2021:
In order to mitigate the problems being faced by farmers of the state, particularly shortage of urea, Irabot Foundation Manipur (IFM) has urged the government to probe the urea crisis by constituting an enquiry commission led by a retired High Court judge so that farmers could avail urea at subsidised rate adequately and conveniently.
In a release, IFM said that the price of essential items continues to spike amidst the Covid-19 pandemic in the state and several, artificial sufferings have been added to the people during this troubling time.
Pointing out that urea is one of the essential components needed in agriculture; IFM said that the crisis of unavailability of urea at subsidised rate to the farmers has been going on for a long time.
The government needs to thoroughly analyse the crisis and discuss it with the agriculture minister and staff of the department concerned, stressed the Foundation.
Farmers face urea crisis every year during the same Kharif season and it seems that the crisis will continue in future also, it contended, while suggesting that the government order enquiry by panel headed by a retired high court judge and investigate the agrarian crisis.
The recommendation of the said investigation should be put into action without further delay to solve the crisis, it said, adding that the report should be submitted to the government within 45 days and the government should find out whether fertilisers are sold illegally or not.
If it is sold illegally then stern actions should be taken up against all those involved so that farmers never face such crisis again, IFM urged the CM.
