Stir likely over woman's death

Alleging medical negligence for the death of a young pregnant woman in a private healthcare centre located at Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai, Meira Paibi activists of Khoyathong area have warned of launching agitation if the doctors involved are not booked and authorities fail to initiate legal action against guilty doctors.
Addressing media persons at Rising Knowledge Club, Khoyathong on Tuesday, Thangmeiband Polem Leikai Meira Paibi executive secretary Sundari Loitongbam said that the deceased woman namely Loukrakpam Debala, 33, wife of Ngangbam Bharat of Khoyathong Polem Leikai regularly went for check-up at Hillside Charitable and Research Centre.
Few days back, Debala went to the centre after she experienced pain on her back.
However, she could not meet the consultant gynaecology as the doctor was reportedly busy in surgery.
Instead, she met the hospital's founder and returned home after medical prescription.
However, Debala was rushed to the centre.
Even though Debala had breathing problem, the hospital did not provided oxygen support citing absence of stock, Sundari said and questioned as to why the centre did not maintained oxygen stock.
Debala's life could have been saved if the hospital provided oxygen, she reasoned and asked as to why medical directorate allowed Hillside Charitable and Research Centre to run without proper equipment and medical infrastructure.
She demanded action from government authority against the hospital and the doctor concerned within 24 hours and warned of launching intense agitation.
