Imphal, August 09 2022:
Under the auspices of National Commission for Women, Manipur State Commission for Women organised a one-day awareness programme on menstrual hygiene at Keishamthong High School, here on Tuesday.
Speaking at the pro gramme as chief guest, MSCW chairperson Salam Ulka pointed out that the commission has been organising awareness programmes and settled many complaints related to women that were brought up to its notice.
She explained that early marriage, lack of moral edu cation and discipline are some main reasons for issues that crop up between husband and wife.
While urging to spread the knowledge gained from the awareness programme about menstrual hygiene to students, Ulka exhorted the parents to be careful in giving parental education.
People should have the notion of collective welfare instead of individual happiness, she said, while emphasising on keeping away from western cultures and following the ancestral traditions.
The commission should not only give protection to women but also support them economically, socially and mentally.
The awareness programme presided over by Keishamthong High School headmaster Tongbram Kenedy was attended by MSCW member Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang; member Lourembam Dayabati, T Chuongsin Koireng as guest of honour and gynaecologist Dr Kavita Athokpam as resource person.
