Women scribes leave for Sikkim tour

Imphal, May 09 2022: Municipal Administration, Housing & Urban Development (MAHUD) minister Yumnam Khemchand on Monday flagged off a team of women journalists affiliated to All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU), for a weeklong tour to Sikkim from Manipur Press Club.

Speaking on the sidelines, Khemchand noted that the weeklong tour for women journalists is an act of empowering women.

He then lauded AMWJU for organising the tour, adding that it will not only highlight the contributions made by women journalists, but also encourage more women to join the journalism field.

In his brief address, AMWJU president Wangkhemcha Shamjai said that tour Would help the women journalists to gain more experience as they will be interacting with Sikkim-based journalists.

The team would also witness firsthand the development work taken up by the Sikkim government and would be relaying the same to the people of Manipur through their respective media houses, he added.
