Protest against killing, arrest of VVs continues

Imphal, January 09 2025: Demanding immediate halt to arrest of village volunteers (VVs) and dismissal of police personnel involved in killing village volunteers, Merai Paibis of Sagolband Tera Khuraijam Leikai staged a sit-in protest at Wangthoibi Leirakon Thursday.

During the protest, local Meira Paibi leader N Rani said village volunteers have been protecting common people in the ongoing war erupted on May 3, 2023."It is very unfortunate that village volunteers are being killed and arrested," she bemoaned, while demanding that all the arrested village volunteers be released without any condition.

She also demanded that police personnel involved in killing village volunteers be dismissed from their services.

The protestors held placards with slogan such as 'Terminate police commando involved in killing village volunteer', 'We condemn killing of village volunteer', 'Release arrested village volunteers', 'We condemn arrest of village volunteers', 'Remove irresponsible leaders' and 'Repeal AFSPA, 1958 from Kangleipak' among others.
