Imphal, September 07 2021:
To commemorate 25 years of the movement initiated by National Federation of Indian Women (NFIW) for passing Women Reservation Bill in the Parliament, All Manipur Nupi Marup would be observing 'Demand Day' on September 12.According to a statement of .Nupi Marup, NFIW has been relentlessly fighting for women empowerment and upgrading status of women and the movement initiated by the Federation for passing Women Reservation Bill will complete 25 years on September 12.Nupi Marup will commemorate the day but the ceremony will be held with strict adherence to SOPs due to COVID-19 pandemic, it said, adding that problems faced by women of the state will be highlighted during the event.
The statement further said that BJP is ruling the country for two successive terms but women constitute only 14 percent of party's total MPs in the Parliament and this shows that RSS, under which BJP functions, still wants, to suppress women and confine them within four corners of the house.
To uplift status of women, Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiated 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' campaign in 2014 but crime against women particularly those belonging to lower caste is rising throughout the country.
This shows that the present government is unable to protect women, the statement added.
