Ukhrul, September 06 2024:
Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) and Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) have raised serious concern over the act of frequently blocking the National Highway-202 connecting Imphal and Ukhrul, while appealing to the protestors to lift the bandh in the interest of commuters and others who rely on the roadway.
Calling the bandh along the vital route as highly regrettable and objectionable, TNL vice president RS Jollyson, in a statement on Friday, stated that it took serious exception to the culture of highway bandhs called for all kinds of frivolous reasons.
"If there is any public grievance or issue with any organisation or authority, the concerned people sponsoring the bandh must take recourse to sorting out the same with the concerned authorities without causing disruption to daily activities of the people," he added.
In a separate statement, TKS president Ramreichan Keishing and general secretary PS Ningthingmaya stated that the indiscriminate shutdown of Imphal-Ukhrul road demanding removal of Jat Regiment and deployment of state force in the red zone area had disturbed the livelihood of people dependent on this road.
"This is very unbecoming on the part of the protest/shutdown organisers," they said and urged the bandh organisers to open the road so as to avoid any untoward incidents.
"Demands may be a genuine concern, however disturbing the livelihood of innocent people/communities who are dependent on this road is unjustified in any case," they noted.
