Imphal-Ukhrul road shutdown from today

Imphal, August 06 2024:
Denouncing alleged indifferent attitude authority concerned to their demand for withdrawal of Jat Regiment from Lamlai due to the regiment's inability to stop Kuki militants from attacking Meetei villages in the red zone area, Lamlai Kendra Village Volunteer Force has declared imposition of indefinite total shutdown of NH-150 (Imphal-Ukhrul road) from 5 am Wednesday.
Addressing media person in an area under Lamlai assembly constituency, LamlaiKendra Village Volunteer Force chief Y Bosan contended that despite assurances by authorities, including security forces to prevent attacks by Kuki militants on the Meetei community, the militants attacked Meetei villages in red zone area within the assembly constituency, including Sabungkhok Khunou.
Santi Khongbal, Yaingangpokpi, Thamnapokpi, and Sanasabi, on August 3 night.
He further informed that the day after the attack, a public meeting was convened which resolved to demand removal of the Jat Regiment from Lamlai assembly constituency within two days.
During the meeting, the Lamlai MLA also assured that state forces would be deployed at Yainganpokpi and Uyunching but the same remains unfulfilled till date.
As none of the authorities have approached them regarding this matter, the Imphal-Ukhrul Road (NH-150) in Lamlai assembly constituency sector would be closed from 5 am Wednesday, Bosan declared, while appealing to all women's organisations, civil society organisations, and the public for cooperation.
Essential services, emergencies, media, and activities related to cultural and religious events would be exempted from the purview of the shutdown, he added.
