Imphal, May 06 2015 :
Several civil society organisations have on Wednesday demanded the State Government to bring all culprits involved in Tuesday's Pallel Laikon Leikai to book and restore peace in the area at the earliest.
All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) organized a press meet at the organisation office here, which was also attended by representatives of several other civil society organisations.
The Pallel attack carried out by unidentified miscreants left one dead and four others injured.
"We condemn in the strongest terms the attack on a ritual Lai Lamthokpa party," AMUCO president Dr Mani Khuman said.
He termed the fatal shooting an 'unfortunate incident' and suspected it as an attempt to incite communal tension in Manipur.
Dr Khuman informed that the joint action committee (JAC) formed against the incident has submitted a memorandum to the State Government and urged the latter to fulfill all the demands raised in the memorandum.
He cautioned that if the Manipur Government shows inattentive attitude over the incident, it could jeopardize the situation.
The AMUCO leader stated there is need for joining together all civil society organsations of both the hills and valley to avoid such incidents in future and make an all-out effort to trace the origin of the common ancestry.Dr Khuman cited that certain incidents have occurred in the State in recent times, which could incite communal tension and urged the State Government to take appropriate steps to stop such unwanted incidents.
The press meet was also attended by leaders of NIPCO, Discover Manipur, UPF and Macha Leima, among others.
