Formers advised to plant RC Maniphou-15

A one-day Farmers' Field Day on the paddy variety RC Maniphou-115 was conducted by KVK, Chandel under the NICRA Project at Lambung village in Chandel district on Tuesday.
The event highlighted RC.
Maniphou-15's impressive yield of 7.5 tonnes per hectare and its resistance to diseases like neck blast.
Addressing the partici pants, NICRA Project nodal officer Dr Kangjam Sonama-ni explained that RC Maniphou-15 offers a promising solution to the challenges posed by changing weather patterns and water stress in Chandel.
Rice, a staple food in Chandel district, is grown under various conditions and farming systems, but climate shifts have led to decreased productivity and demoralised many farmers, he noted, and encouraged the farmers to adopt climate-smart farming practices and incorporate the latest agricultural technologies to improve their yield and income.
KVK, Chandel senior scientist & head Dr A Ameeta commended farmers who achieved bumper harvest with RC Maniphou-15, and urged others to - consider climate-resilient systems and integrated approaches to farming.
She emphasised the importance of adaptation in agriculture and congratulated farmers for their efforts, while encouraging them to continue evolving their practices for better economic returns.
The event included a farmers-scientists interaction session attended by KVK, Chandel subject matter specialists Dr Khumlo Levish Chongloi (Agronomy), Ts Leenda Monsang (Plant Breeding), and Ps Lavid Anal (Horticulture) .
The session facilitated farmers to discuss cultivation techniques and explore ways to overcome challenges in paddy farming.
The programme concluded with a field visit, during which 36 farmers and KVK Chandel staff observed the practical benefits of RC Maniphou-15 in real-world conditions.
