SFs recover firearms, bombs, ammunition

Imphal, August 05 2024: Security forces on Monday conducted search operations at different places and recovered huge cache of weapons including explosive materials.

According to a police report, a joint team of 46 AR, Kakching police commando, Wangoo police and 131 Battalion BSF conducted search operation from 9.09 am to 9.55 am at Chairel Khunou Heirikokthong Ching under Wangoo police station and recovered two 36 HE grenades, one carbine magazine, one "PARA" 2 mortar shell, six tear smoke shells, one anti-riot cartridge, two smoke grenades, a helmet, three detonators and one 12 bore cartridges.

Similarly, a combined team of Thoubal district police special operation group and 5/9 Gorkha Rifles conducted search operation at Leirongthel Pitra Lok Macha foothills under Nongpok Sekmai police station from 4.10 am to 6 am and recovered two 9mm SMGs, two 9 mm pistols, one .32 pistol, two .303 rifles (country made), one 12 bore single barrel gun, six 36 HE hand grenades, three MK III A2 grenades, six tear smoke rounds, five 12 bore cartridges, 15 rounds of 9mm, 40 rounds of 7.62x 39 mm, 44 rounds of 7.62 mm, three rounds of .32 ball, 12 rounds of 5.56 Insas, one tube launcher, two detonators of 36 HE hand grenade, two MK III A2 grenade detonators and one hand set (Baofeng) .

Items recovered in both the search operations have reportedly been handed over to the police station concerned for further process.

On the other hand, a combined team of Bishnupur district police and CRPF conducted search operation in Leitanpokpi area under Phougakchao Ikhai police station from 6.30 am to 8.30 am, and searched 120 houses and verified 200 people.

However, no one was arrested during the operation, it added.

A combined team of Kakching district police and Border Security Force (BSF) also conducted search operation in Pallel Mamang Leikai area under Pallel police station from 6 am till 7.10 am on Saturday during which 75 houses were searched and 135 people verified.

According to a police report, a joint team of Imphal West district police, CRPF and BSF also searched Tairenpokpi village under Lamsang PS from 8am till 9.30am on Saturday.

Altogether 64 houses were searched and 187 people verified.

However, no arrests or recovery of weapons were made during the operations.
