59 arrested during August

Imphal, September 03 2014: Altogether 59 cadres of various underground organizations were arrested by Central Security forces and Manipur Police Commandoes with recovery of 12 guns, 145 live rounds of ammunition, 26 hand grenades and mobile sets, 1 IED remote control device and a cash amount of Rs.1,235 during August last.

According to reports received by the press, the underground cadres nabbed by security forces and police commandoes from August 1 to 31 last were 13 of KYKL, 9 PLA, 7 UNLF, 6 of Prepak (Pro), 3 each of Prepak and URF, 4 each of KCP and KCP (N), 2 cadres each of NSCN (IM), KCP (Lamnganba) and KCP (MDF), and one cadre each of UKLF, MNPF, KCP (MC) and ZDV.

During the same month, 2 innocent persons were killed in bomb blast and firing incidents, while 7 police and security personnel and another 7 innocents were injured.

One police personnel was also wounded during firing of tear gas shells at students who were agitating to demand implementaion of Inner Line Permit system at Singjamei Chingamathak in front of Emo Filling Station on August 7 last.

A Havildar of Assam Rifles namely Jagdish was hurt in the UNLF bomb attack near 3 AR post at Old Samtal at Indo-Burma Border under Molcham Police station in Chandel district on August 26 around 5.40 am.

5 BSF personnel got injuries while undergoing hand-grenade training inside the 154 BSF post at Churachandpur town on August 29 around 12.30 am.

Around 7.30 pm on August 30, unidentified persons shot at the Pradhan of Sawombung Gram Panchayat, Sandham Ibomcha (47) near his residence at Yourbung Khunou under Lamlai Police station.

At 2 pm on the same day, 2 persons were killed in confrontations with the security persons during the protest demonstrations against imposition of CrPC 144 prohibition in Ukhrul town, while several others sustained injuries.
