Drive against label-less food items soon

Designated officer of food safety administration Th Sunilkumar has informed that intense drive will begin from the first week of January next year against edible items which do not have proper label like batch number, lot number and expiry date.
From the beginning of next year, all food manufacturing units in the state must possess licence and no units which do not possess licence will be allowed to open, Sunilkumar said during a training programme for Accredited Health Activist (ASHA) on Eat Right Toolkit held at the conference hall of CMO Imphal East on Thursday.
In his speech at the training programme organised under the aegis of Eat Right India Initiative of Food Safety and Standard Authority of India (FSSAI) of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Sunilkumar said that the training programme has been conducted specially for ASHA workers, who are frontline warriors in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic as so to them make them aware about how hygienic and safe food should be given to patients during the pandemic.
Imphal East was among districts selected across the country to impart such training and accordingly did the same for ASHA workers on Thursday, he said, adding that intense drive against improper and adulterated foods including imported ones will begin from the first week of January, 2022.The training programme was also attended by Safe Food and Healthy Diets, Imphal East District Level Advisory Committee vice chairman and CMO Imphal East Dr L Indira and food analyst of Food Testing Laboratory of medical directorate Th Sanajaoba.
