PM Modi launches RIMS drone service

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a new drone service and laid the foundation stone for key healthcare projects at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), via video conferencing on the occasion of Dhanvantari Jayanti and the 9th Ayurveda Day, on Tuesday.
In a statement of RIMS media cell informed that RIMS director Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma highlighted that the drone service initiative was launched under the health ministry's "hub-and-spoke" model, with RIMS serving as the central hub and Khumbong CHC functioning as a spoke.
The project, which began operations in March 2024, was officially inaugurated on Tuesday by the Prime Minister, emphasising its importance in improving healthcare delivery in the region.
RIMS has been recognised as one of the leading tertiary care institutes in the country, reinforcing its role in pioneering the drone service project to facilitate timely medical access in remote areas, he added.
The inauguration was followed by a live demonstration of the drone service in front of Jubilee Hall at RIMS, showcasing its potential to transport medical supplies and essential healthcare materials efficiently across various terrains.
The event was attended by the RIMS medical superintendent, deputy director (administration), principals of RIMS College of Nursing, and Dental College, as well as CAO/FA, department heads, nursing officials, faculty members, and students of RIMS, the statement added.
On the other hand, 14 candidates of NIT Manipur were among 51,000 persons who were provided appointment letters under Pradhan Mantri Rozgar Mela by the Prime Minister, virtually on Tuesday.
The physical appointment letters were received from union minister of AYUSH Sarbanand Sonowal in a Rozgar Mela function held at GMHC Auditorium, Guwahati by NIT Manipur director Prof DVLN Somayajulu and registrar Prof Kh Tomba.
According to the director, the recruitment for non-teaching post at NIT Manipur was conducted during September-October.
The 14 posts include one assistant registrar, one junior engineer and 12 technicians.
