Consultation on Peace and Harmony held

A one-day Consultation on Peace and Harmony in Manipur organized jointly by United Religions Initiative (URI), Manipur Tourism Forum (MTF), IInd World War Campaign Foundation Manipur and Dr.Jamini Welfare Trust was held at the premises of Divya Jyoti Ashram at Changangei Uchekon here on Sunday.
Prof.HNK Sharma, Vice Chancellor of Manipur University and M.Ibohal, President of URI graced the programme as chief guest and the president respectively, while Prof..NKhagendra, retired professor of English, Manipur University, Dr.Th.Dhaballi, President of Manipur Tourism Forum and Arambam Angamba, Co-Founder of IInd World War Campaign Foundation attended as presidium members.
During the consultation, Prof..LSadananda, retired Principal of Manipur College and Prof.Th.Ratankumar, Professor of English, Manipur University delivered lectures on topics 'United Religions Initiative' and 'War and Peace' respectively.
In her keynote address, Dr.Ch.
Jamini, who is also the President of Dr.Jamini Welfare Trust said that the World War II battles had brought so many untold sufferings to the people of Manipur during the 1940s.Although the war ended 70 years ago, Manipur is still in a war like situation with gun culture and uniform security persons here and there, he added.
The objective of the consultation on peace and harmony, as Dr.Jamini pointed out, was to recount the history of war in Manipur as well as to usher in peace in the state.
She said the pangs of war and value of peace need to be told to the present generation, so that the present generation gets rid of violence and killings.
Prof..LSadananda, in his speech, explained the objectives of the United Religions Initiative (URI) which is a global non-religious body.
URI in Manipur, which has been in existence since 13 years back, has members belonging to as many as 9 religions, he informed the gathering, saying the URI observes the International Day of Peace on 21 September every year.
In his speech, Prof.Th.Ratankumar stated peace is a state of mind and only absence of war does not mean peace.
Saying the Imphal battle in Manipur was among the 10 fiercest battles during the World War-II, Ratankumar appreciated the efforts of the WW-II campaign Foundation in recollecting the significance of the battle across the world.
The programme, which was inaugurated with a Manoharsai presentation by the women cultural Troup of Dr.Jamini Welfare Trust, was participated among others by various eminent personalities of the state.
