Govt urged to aid farmers in distress

COCOMI Farmers' Wing has stated that timely intervention of the government is inevitable to solve problems besieging the farming community.
In a statement, the Farmers' Wing informed that out of total sanctioned amount of Rs 83.6 crore to compensate farmers affected by the ethnic violence which broke out on May 3, 2023, Rs 18.4 crore have been disbursed to the farmers till date, in addition to the state cabinet on August 11 approving second instalment sanction of Rs 13.30 crore.
However, in-spite of the cabinet nod, the remaining funds have not yet been released, consequently hindering process for fresh proposals to seek additional compensation and leaving farmers in the lurch.
Stressing the urgent need for timely government intervention to mitigate hardships faced by the food producers, the Wing lamented that incessant rainfall and multiple floods during the prime kharif season have compounded the farmers' problems.
As such the Wing called upon the government authorities to expedite process for adequate compensation to aid the farmers focus in increasing yield of seasonal food crops.
