Kangpokpi, July 25 2022:
Civil society organizations of Kangpokpi have decided to impose a 24 hour total shutdown in Kangpokpi district over shortage of staff nurses and other manpower at District Hospital, Kangpokpi.
The decision was taken at a joint meeting held today at Kangpokpi district headquarters.
The civil society organizations of Kangpokpi had served four days ultimatum to the State Government and authorities concerned to fulfil their demand of posting adequate staff nurses and other manpower as per the MGEL sanctioned posts in the district hospital.
Speaking on behalf of the CSOs, KSO Sadar Hills general secretary Thangtinlen Haokip said that the ultimatum served to the State Government and the authorities Concerned expired today with no response.
"Therefore, we have decided to impose a 24 hr total shutdown from midnight of July 26 to midnight of July 27", he asserted.
He also said if the State Government and the authorities concerned fail to address their demand even during the imposition of the total shutdown, then various intense forms of agitation will be taken up.
Haokip recalled that despite the intolerable situation after putting in several efforts to address the grievances of the people caused by shortage of staff nurses and other manpower at the district hospital, The Government has turned a deaf ear.
He further recalled that 14 staff nurses have been sanctioned as per MGEL sanctioned post at the district hospital but only four staff nurses have been posted so far, and added that unfortunately, out of the four staff nurses, one has been posted at PHSC Parsain under PHC Kalapahar as CHO under NHM, leaving only three staff nurses at the hospital.
It is very clear to all what would be the quality of service provided in the hospital with only three staff nurses, specially at this juncture when huge number of patients are admitted to the hospital, he added.
He also said that apart from the acute shortage of staff nurses, out of three sanctioned LDC posts, none is available at present and only one ambulance driver was posted out of two sanctioned posts.
Despite one sanctioned post of Chowkidar, no Chowkidar is available in the district hospital, and only one sweeper is available out of two sanctioned posts while only one Grade-IV employee is available out of three sanctioned post.
The KSO Sadar Hills general secretary then urged all like-minded people of the State and civil society organizations, intellectuals, etc to understand the situation and render maximum support and cooperation in the larger interest of public health and medical issues.
He also appealed specially to the people of Kangpokpi district to extend every possible support during the total shutdown for the cause of quality health services at the district hospital Kangpokpi.
