Imphal, June 24 2021:
Left parties in the state would be organising a protest on June 26 as part of the 'Save Agriculture - Save Democracy' campaign of the ongoing nation-wide protest of farmers, which completed 200th day milestone on June 14 .
In a joint statement, the Left parties informed that the farmers' protest led by Samyukta Kishan Morcha is completing seven months on June 26 .
It also coincides with the death anniversary of farmers' leader Swami Sahajananda Saraswati, a partner of Lamyanba Hijam Irawat, during the farmers' protest in Manipur.
To mark both the occasions and in support to the ongoing farmers' protest, the Left parties in the state will organise sit-in protests in different parts of the state on June 26, it informed.
Despite the unceasing protests of farmers braving harsh weathers and danger of Covid pandemic, the government is not doing anything to withdraw the three farm bills, Electricity (Amendment) Ordinance, 2021 and to assure MSP guarantee to the farmers.
The country is in an undeclared emergency under the BJP rule and as a result, huge public movement is being organised in Lakshadweep.
There is no clear policy to fight the pandemic, the joint statement said.
It then demanded the NDA government to repeal the four labour codes, three farm laws and Electricity (Amendment) Ordinance 2021 and to guarantee MSP for agricultural products.
It also demanded the government to ensure a timebound free vaccination for all, provision of 10 kg of rice per individual & Rs 7500 to poor families per month during the pandemic period; withdraw decision to privatise PSUs, recognise government & PSU employees who are working during the pandemic as frontline workers, provide insurance cover of Rs 50 lakh to all ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers, sanitation workers and other frontline workers; and to provide adequate compensation to all Covid victims.
