Symposium on 'Role of Book in National Development' held

As part of the observance of Khongjom Day and celebration of World Book & Copyright Day in conjunction with Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Manipur University's Department of Library & Information Science and Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat (EBSB) Cell on Saturday organised a one day symposium on "Role of Book in National Development" at the premises of the library department.
The event was attended by Dr O Ranjit Singh, HoD, Ancient History and Archaeology, Manipur University (MU), as chief guest and moderator of the symposium, which was presided over by Dr Ch Ibohal Singh, HoD, Library & Information Science and nodal officer of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat (EBSB) Cell, MU.
The programme commenced with the participants paying floral tributes to the photograph of Paona Brajabashi and observing a 2-minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed soul and the martyrs who laid down their lives in the Anglo-Manipuri War of 1891.Dr H Ajit Singh, faculty of the Department of Ancient History and Archaeology (MU), spoke on the significance of Khongjom Day observance while Dr Ch Ibohal deliberated on Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and significance of the World Book & Copyright Day.
A total of 12 students and research scholars partici pated in the symposium during which Gyanajeet Yumnam secured the first position followed by Kungliangliu Marenmai in second and Leishangbam Reena Devi third.
The chief guest and jury members of the symposium distributed certificates and gifts to the participants of the symposium.
While giving his observation, Dr O Ranjit Singh highlighted the importance of observing the Khongjom Day and Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and the relevance of the theme of the symposium on the occasion of World Book & Copyright Day.
The function concluded with a vote thanks by Dr RK Sofia Devi, faculty of the Department of Library & Information Science, MU .
