Imphal, January 22 2022:
International Peace and Social Advancement (IPSA), Thoubal branch has pointed out that District Hospital Thoubal is filled with inadequacies including manpower and equipment.
In a release, publicity secretary N Kiran said that a team of IPSA Thoubal led by its president met with the medical superintendent of the hospital as there have been reports of inconveniences faced by patients.
Out of the 105 sanctioned posts of doctors, there are only 70 doctors, of which four are being utilised in other health centres.
There are only four nursing sisters out of the eight sanctioned posts and out of these, four are being utilised in other health centres, he informed, while continuing that only 31 staff nurses are working in the hospital out of the sanctioned posts of 51 nurses.
As such, out of the total 60 nurses, only 35 nurses are working in the hospital, 19 being utilised in other health centers and six posts remained vacant, the secretary added.
It is unfortunate that there is no ultrasound machine, CT-scan machine and RCT equipment for dental department.
In addition to this, most of the equipment/ machines issued by the government are outdated and of low quality, Kiran contended, while urging the government to look into the matter.
Regarding 52 free tests provided by the government, he alleged that doctors are taking undue advantage of lack of staff and untimely test results.
They refer conduct of test to their preferred clinic outside the hospital thereby compounding financial burden of the poor people.
Moreover, patients are made to undergo excess tests in these clinics which charge fee at whatever rate they fixed.
IPSA Thoubal branch will seriously look into the matter, the secretary added.
