Imphal, August 21 2021:
Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) has denounced the state government for failing to revoke its notification of fixing the admission cut-off mark for 57 government higher secondary schools.
In a statement, MSF said that it would have appreciated the state government with regard to the admission process being held on cut-off mark basis if Covid-19 pandemic did not exist.
However, the pandemic forced cancellation of the annual examination and consequently a total of 47,208 students enrolled for the examination were promoted, MSF pointed out and recounted that that on August 2, the Directorate of Education (S) issued a notification informing that the seat capacity in 57 government higher secondary schools is 13,865.Many students registered for admission in government higher secondary schools due to the pandemic.
However, setting marking system as the basis of selection criteria for admission seems like a form of discriminating the students.
"If the selection was dpne through an entrance examination, the students would have been satisfied and helped in bringing about quality education.
However, MSF can never agree to conduct of the admission process in government schools amidst such inequity", it made it clear.
Recounting that no amicable solution was reached during a meeting with the Education director and commissioner when MSF urged for fulfillment of its demands on the matter; the students' body remarked that it does not take lightly any act of belittling the student community.
"MSF is not in agreement with the government and it will continue to stand for the student community as long as there is inequality", it said.
